Jo Swinson CBE is Deputy Leader of the British Liberal Democrats and a Member of Parliament for East Dunbartonshire. Between 2012-2015, Jo served as a Minister in the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and brought in new corporate reporting requirements on gender, executive pay and transparency of company ownership.
Jo also promoted measures to tackle modern slavery in supply chains, introduced shared parental leave, and acted as the Government champion for the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative.
As a Liberal Democrat Member of Parliament Jo has campaigned successfully for stronger climate change targets, for more responsible advertising, for greater transparency on organisations’ parental leave and pay policies and for the Office of National Statistics to measure national wellbeing alongside traditional indicators of progress.
Over the next year, she will be leading the Technology and AI Commission to identify solutions for some of the biggest challenges facing the future of technology.
Her first book, ‘Equal Power’, was published in February 2018.
