James Macpherson has been co-head of UK Equities within the Fundamental Equity division at BlackRock since 2000 and a member of BlackRock’s Leadership Committee. James is portfolio manager for the BlackRock UK Equity Fund and a number of institutional portfolios. The BlackRock UK Equity Team manages circa £21bn of investments on behalf of pension funds, charities, and private investors and funds managed include long-only retail funds and hedge funds.
James’s service with the firm dates back to 1985 when he joined SG Warburg & Co as a graduate trainee, and includes his years with Merrill Lynch Investment Managers (MLIM), which merged with BlackRock in 2006. He was appointed a Managing Director in 1997 and Co-Head of UK Equities in 2000.
James was educated at Trinity College, Oxford and gained a BA (Honours) in Politics, Philosophy and Economics in 1985.
