Jo Swinson CBE is Deputy Leader of the British Liberal Democrats and a Member of Parliament for East Dunbartonshire. Between 2012-2015, Jo served as a Minister in the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and brought in new corporate reporting requirements on gender, executive pay and transparency of company ownership. During this time she also promoted measures to tackle modern slavery in supply chains, introduced shared parental leave, and acted as the Government champion for the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative.
During her 11 years as a Liberal Democrat Member of Parliament she campaigned successfully for stronger climate change targets, for more responsible advertising, and for the Office of National Statistics to measure national wellbeing alongside traditional indicators of progress like GDP.
Jo chairs the CIPD Policy Forum and is Chair of the charity Maternity Action. Her first book, ‘Equal Power’ will be published in February 2018.
